We knew it was going to rain, but we had no idea what that exactly meant for the day. Neither Hannah nor I had ever shot a wedding at the Mission Inn in Riverside, and we quickly realized we were in for a treat. The venue is beyond gorgeous, I mean jaw-dropping spectacular. Honestly, I want to get married all over again just so I can do it there. The only bummer that day was the weather. We weren't able to use the venue to it's fullest potential, but rest assure, we made beyond due considering the rain. The wedding was amazing, even down to last detail. The color palette was divine, blending vibrant purples, soft pinks and cool gray. And of course, the bride and groom were stunning!

A special thanks goes to my wonderful side kick and wedding photography partner Hannah from Hannah Sons Photography. You're the best girl, and I wouldn't want to shoot a wedding with anyone else!

Maternity sessions have to be one of my favorite subjects to photograph. I'm not sure why, I just know that I love doing them. This session was right up there at the top. This couple is so in love and they were so ready to begin their journey as parents. And, she could be the cutest pregnant women I have ever met!

From cute parents to a cute baby! Here is miss C. She made her grand entrance on Christmas Eve. This little girl has the most adorable ears that I've ever seen, and the rest of her is pretty darn cute too! I have to give a big 'thank you' to my girl Chelsea, who assisted me on this shoot.

Yes, I do realize that this post is long overdue, but I've been busy. We just finished up a week long visit from my sister's family, and spent the weeks between Christmas and the middle of January preparing for my daughter's 2nd birthday party. I haven't had much free time on my hands, but now things are starting to settle back down, so here I am frantically trying to catch up on blogging previous sessions before I completely give up on blogging them altogether.

Here are a few of the Holiday Sessions from 2010. I was so surprised and humbled by the number of sessions I had booked for the season. It was absolutely CRAZY trying to balance the extra work load with family and Christmas fast approaching, but all-in-all everything worked out great.

Here is yet another session from the Holiday season. All my clients are near and dear to my heart, but there's something so special to me when I get the chance to photograph my friends. I've know this lovely lady for a very long time, and was happy to spend some time with her and her men. We headed up to the apple orchards, which were surprisingly covered in snow! We only had one jacket, and one scarf between the four of us, and my fingers were so cold I could barely work my camera. But looking at these photos you never would have known that we were on the verge of hypothermia!

There is something just so special about photographing pregnancies, it really is one of my favorite aspects of this job. Each time I meet with a new mommy-to-be it takes me right back to that magical time when I was pregnant with Leah. I was one of those weird ladies who absolutely LOVED being pregnant and enjoyed every last minute of it. I remember being so incredibly sad once Leah arrived because I wasn't pregnant anymore......I know, I know, I told you I'm weird.

Here is one of my gorgeous pregnant subjects and her equally adorable family. I hadn't seen this couple since they were pregnant with their first son, so it was a treat to catch up and meet their little gentleman. They are now onto baby number 2, and I'm sure he is going to be just as cute and funny as their first! Congratulations D family.

She was terrified, and to be honest, I didn't think she was going to even do it at all. But, as I sat her down this is what she said,

"Hi my Santa, I want a trike."

It was nearly a whisper and Santa didn't understand what she said, and there was no chance she was going to say it again, but I assured her that Santa knew that she wanted a trike. It was the sweetest thing that I had ever heard.

Santa didn't disappoint. On Christmas morning she awoke to a shiny new Radio Flyer tricycle sparkling in front of the tree. Santa also must have know she has a slight obsession with Dora the Explorer, because on the seat was a pretty Dora helmet and bell.

Well, the crazy season is beginning to calm down, and I finally have a chance to start blogging some of the Holiday sessions from the past few months.

This family is near and dear to my heart. I've known them since I first moved to California almost 9 years ago, and even better, my husband has known them since junior high! We were in each other's weddings, and celebrated the birth of each other's children. I even had the pleasure of photographing their youngest daughter just days after they welcomed her into the world.

I had been prepping my daughter for weeks about getting our family photo taken, and to be honest I felt like she was ready. I would ask her "how are you gonna smile for the camera?" and she would flash her pearly whites, and even throw her hand on her hip for extra cuteness. I really thought we were ready.

Well, I was wrong, dead wrong!

My sister generously spent her free morning driving us around and playing photographer. We started up in the forest, where I had done a session a few weeks before. But, within those short weeks, the leave's vibrant colors had started to fall flat, and the harsh sunlight was casting funky shadows all over that place. This was not my vision. So we ditched the forest and headed to a second location.

The second location wasn't much better, and by this time my daughter wouldn't stop crying and wasn't the least bit interested in smiling for the camera. I was having a meltdown, my husband lost his sunglasses in a 6 inch pile of leaves, and my poor sister was having to deal with all of us!

This what we got, it isn't nearly what I had envisioned, but it's us. Tears, frowns, laughs, missing sunglasses and all.

We decided Leah looks like one of those olden day photos, where everyone looks mad!

This was our Christmas Card this year. I found an amazing designer on Etsy.

Gifts, Dogs, & I Heart Faces

My husband is a horrible gift giver. And, when I say horrible, I mean HORRIBLE. He tries, man does he ever try, but somehow he usually misses the mark. Just a few examples to help you fully understand the issue:

I received an office chair one year for my birthday (whaaaaat??),

He tried to take me to McDonald's one year for Valentines Day,

One year he got me GIANT skater girl DC shoes for chirstmas (if you've ever met me you would see why that's never gonna happen),

And to top them all, on our very first wedding anniversary he got me nothing! NOTHING!!! Yup, you didn't misread that, he honestly didn't think you do gifts for anniversaries!!! You can only imagine how awkward that night was, when I presented him with the watch he had been dying for for months, and he returned my gesture with a puzzled and panicked look.

Don't get me wrong, he is an amazing husband, and does little things for me all year long, and he has come a long way in the gift giving department. But, I honestly think he just can't handle the pressure of giving a gift. And, maybe I'm not the easiest person to give to, (this year my xmas list has a new car on it.)

Despite his awful gift giving, one year he hit the nail on the head. It was the year after the 'nothing' anniversary, and to my surprise he bought me my first DSLR camera! Of course, I had spent months drooling over cameras, but decided it could wait until a later time. But, I didn't have to wait, and this one gift took me down a path in life that I never thought I'd walk. So, I guess if my husband was a better gift giver, perhaps I wouldn't be a photographer!

So, the whole point of this story is my photo entry in the I Heart Faces weekly challenge. This week's theme is Pets, and this photo is one of the first pictures I took with that DSLR. Fresh out of the box, and into my hands, I stalked the dogs, (because the baby was asleep).

The winners were just announced and I can't believe it......I won 3rd place! I am so honored and thrilled to have taken 3rd place, in such an amazing contest. This was the first time I've entered an I Heart Faces Contest, and it definitely won't be the last.

Being Thankful

I think this is the first Thanksgiving that I truly understand the meaning of being thankful. To put it simply, this year has been very hard on my family, and I've found myself walking around the past 5 months with anger in my heart. How could she be gone? Why has this happened? These are just 2 of the thousands of questions that I can't even begin to answer for myself but can't stop asking.

It finally donned on me this morning, that today is the day to put my anger aside and be thankful not just for the wonderful family with me now, but also the ones that are no longer here. So today I am thankful that 10 years ago I met my adorable husband and his amazing mother. I am thankful that she helped shape me into the wife and mother that I am today. I am thankful for the incredible wife, mother and nana that she was. I am thankful that I got to spend 10 years with her, and that I was able to give her a beautiful granddaughter.

I know that the wound is still fresh and that the anger will never completely subside, but, today I can be thankful. Thankful for you, Nancy.

My daughter seriously hates having her picture taken, as I'm sure most of you saw on Facebook. The second I pick up my camera she goes from good to evil in a matter of seconds, and not even the promise of a lollipop or ice cream will help. I'm not sure exactly why this is, maybe she's just sick and tired of being my constant model. Poor girl, from the time she was born I've been putting her in baskets, boxes and pots with giant flowers and uncomfortable hats on her head. I guess I don't blame her!

I keep telling myself that she's just taking a break. And this next set of photos gives me some hope that she'll once again smile pretty for my camera!

I photographed Miss C last year when I was up in Seattle. She is so spunky and full of life and the camera just adores her. But, last year she had a little camera anxiety, and would not even look in my general direction. Photog's~you know what I talking about; the kid who couldn't care less if there was an elephant sitting on your head, they are NOT gonna look at you. Despite that, I managed to get some great images of her that captured her independent spirit.

Fast-forward a year, and wow how things have changed. C, with little coaxing, walked with me hand-in-hand through the park and flashed her pearly whites everytime I asked. She even showed-off her super model skills a few times! I had such a great time listening to her chat away about every leaf and cloud. She is so smart and inquisitive, and has the cutest little giggle.

Hopefully Leah will do the same in the future.....a girl can dream, right?!

Are you ready for some serious eye-candy? I'm not joking here......you just don't get any better than this location, lighting, and of course beautiful family! I mean, who has an old caboose on their property, right next to their pond surrounded by weeping willows? I was in heaven, you just don't find this kind of stuff in California. We spent a week in Chicago in September awaiting the birth of baby K, and visiting with family. Believe it or not this location is just around the corner from where we were staying! This is the B family, you might remember them from their maternity session. Their adorable baby girl is now 6 months old!

It's hard to put into words the beauty of a new life, those tiny toes, wrinkled fingers, and world of endless possibilities. I remember those newborn days, when we first came home from the hospital with our daughter, half in shock that they actually let us take her, where we would spend hours just staring at her. Investigating each and every part of her, and in complete awe that we had created her. Our hearts felt like they were going to burst and still do almost 2 years later.

One of the greatest joys of being a photographer is being able to capture that new beginning for families. Here is baby K. She is tiny, and sweet, and cuddly. We met her and her parents at their home just hours after they were discharged from the hospital. She spent the whole session sleeping soundly, except for one brief nursing break. She is such a beautiful baby, I'm so glad she made her appearance in time to meet me and my camera.

I had the pleasure, and yes it was an absolute pleasure, to photograph my wonderful sister Chelsea and her boyfriend Aaron a few weeks back. I was searching for new locations as my busy season was fast approaching and I wanted a few new options for clients. So Chelsea, Leah and I set out for a long drive one day, and stumbled upon some pretty awesome spots! I was so excited about my new finds, that I had to get someone up there to test them out. I recruited Chelsea and Aaron as my models, and we spent the evening playing in the apple orchards. Thanks for being such great sports and helping a sister out!

Ok, so this little girl has to be one of the most well-behaved 2 year olds that I have ever met, oh, and she's also a super model in training! I always come prepared to a 2 year old shoot ready to work, because let's face it, most 2 year olds don't want to sit still and don't want to look a camera, and definitely don't want to smile while they sit still and look at the camera! But Miss M was an angel, and happily did everything I asked of her, with a smile on her face! Her momma brought along the balloons, which turned out to be such a cute idea, and created some of my favorite images from the whole session. So, the crazy season has begun! And when I say crazy, I mean CRAZY! With the holidays fast approaching my schedule is booked solid. Not to mention I'm heading out to Chicago for a week and Seattle for a week in October. Needless to say I wont be taking on anymore clients in 2010 (unless your having a baby, I'll never turn away a newborn!). This fills me with mixed emotions, because I feel so blessed to have a flourishing business, yet sad because I hate the idea of turning away clients. But I feel in order to maintain the quality of my work and still have time left over for my daughter and husband, I've reached my maximum!

Well, enough about me, let's get to the good stuff, the photos! Here is a wonderful little family I had the pleasure of spending the evening with. These two kids were oh-so-cute, I mean just look at those blonde curls and her big brown eyes.

I grew up in a house of all girls, except for my Dad and our pooch Tucker. I'm one of 3 girls, girly girls I might add, we all enjoy shopping, decorating, and pretty much anything a typical man doesn't enjoy doing! Along with all of the fun of sisters, also comes all of the drama, and the last thing I thought I needed was one more sister, but to my surprise I was wrong. When I married my husband I was not only blessed with him, but also his AMAZING family, which includes his sister Chelsea. I don't refer to her as 'my husbands sister', or 'my sister-in-law', she's simply 'my sister'. She has been one of the most important people in my life for the past 8 years, and without her I'm just not sure what I would do! Last weekend she officially graduated with her bachelor's degree from the University of Redlands, and I couldn't be more proud of her! Thanks for being my sister Chels~I love you! I've had lots of jobs in my days, a paper pusher, an auditor, a nanny, a dogfood shucker, a student, a cook (well, more like a food assembler), a photographer, but the best job I've EVER had started 16 months ago. It's wild and crazy, makes me laugh, cry and pull my hair out, but overall it's better than I ever expected!

My work days are filled with diapers and milk, giggles and screams, hugs and kisses, teddy bears and toys, and I couldn't enjoy it anymore. Thank you to my little girl, who gave me the best job in the whole world: Mommy!

I've been meaning to post this session for a week or so, and I'm just now getting a chance to do it! We've been traveling like crazy the last three weeks and we're now finally back in California and all unpacked. I'll post some of our vacation photos in a bit, and some of the sessions I did while in Seattle and Scottsdale, so keeping looking for those.

This is F & J, a couple who are clearly IN LOVE! We started down at our local Redlands Library, which might be one of the most beautiful buildings I've seen. I love photographing there because there are so many options with the Lincoln Memorial right behind and the Redlands Bowl across the street! After that we headed up to a park and took a walk around.

Little Miss C

Meet Little Miss C. She just turned two, and super adorable. I met her mom through a previous client (thanks L!), and we decided to meet at a local Redlands Park for C's two year-old photos. C was a typical two year old, not wanting to look at the camera and blissfully happy trotting up and down the stairs like a 'big girl', but I was able to get a few smiles out of her. I want to give a shout out to Hushabye Boutique for the tutu!...another one of the Cook ladies gorgeous creations!

It might of had something to do with my WILD child, and A's energetic big sister running around! Anyways, I guess the second time was a charm because we were able to get her sound asleep. I always LOVE photographing newborns, and this little boy was no exception! He was just 5 days old and performed like a champ! He slept so sound through a majority of the shoot, only waking once to eat. It was fun working in some props the parents had. The baby scale is theirs, and I'm now scouring every antique shop and the internet to find one like it! Here are a few of my favs:

I know I've been seriously behind on blogging, but I've just been so busy! Between traveling, unpacking, diapering, editing, and holiday eating, I haven't had time to sit in front of the computer and update! So the next few posts are going to be completely out of order but hey, that's the best I can do!

These photos are from a session with my cousin's daughter Miss C. We ventured out to Kelsey Creek Farm in Bellevue, WA and into the soaking wet grass. By the end of the session my pants were wet up to my knees! But I'll do just about anything to get a great picture. It was fun to spend time with relatives I don't get to see often enough. I love that C wore her tiara for the pictures! Hope you enjoy a few of my favorites!

This is Danielle, who is pregnant with baby boy number two, and just gorgeous! That little man is her first born Jaden, who you might recognize from a shoot I did with him and his baby cousin a few months back. Jaden really wasn't into having his picture taken (no surprise, what 2 1/2 year old does?), but he did great, and I was able to get some good shots!

I can't wait for baby Jackson to make his appearance! He should be here in December, so stay tuned!
